MHA Board Roles and Descriptions

Webmaster

The Webmaster will oversee the MHA website, ensuring it is updated with relevant resources, announcements, and event information. They will manage website functionality, security, and user accessibility to ensure a seamless experience for members. This role also includes troubleshooting technical issues and collaborating with other board members to maintain a professional and engaging online presence. The current website is a WordPress site; fairly well established, but there are additional tabs to add and potentially set it up for a membership and mentorship portal- website

Secretary

The Secretary will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of board meetings, decisions, and organizational communications. They will prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and ensure documentation is properly archived for reference. Additionally, they will assist in correspondence with members, partners, and external organizations as needed.

Financial Officer (Treasurer)

The Financial Officer will manage MHA’s budget, financial records, and compliance with nonprofit financial regulations. They will work with Donor Support and manage donations, grants, and expenditures, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters. This role includes preparing financial reports for the board and assisting with fundraising strategies. MHA was established in 2023. It is a 501c3 tax exempt organization. 990 filing status is up to date. Current bank account with Truist.

Program Director- seeking min of 2, max of 3.

The Program Director will develop and oversee MHA’s educational initiatives, workshops, special events and partnerships that support military homeschooling families. They will coordinate with speakers, instructors, and partner organizations to ensure high-quality programs. Additionally, they will assess the effectiveness of programs and adjust strategies to meet community needs.

Podcast and Content Manager

The Podcast and Content Manager will create and oversee MHA’s podcast, webinars, blog, and digital content strategy. They will coordinate interviews, develop topics relevant to military homeschoolers, and manage content distribution across platforms. This role also includes maintaining brand consistency and engaging the community through storytelling and educational materials. Current social media platforms are FB page, Base2Base FB group and website. Need to establish LinkedIn and Instagram accounts. The Social Media Manager would be responsible for setting these up. Natalie Mack is the host of the Base2Base podcast. Pending growth this may be modified in the future. This position works closely with Natalie-founder of MHA.

Leader Mentorship Program Manager

The Leader Mentorship Program Manager will develop and manage a mentorship initiative that connects experienced military homeschool leaders with newcomers. They will recruit, train, and support mentors while facilitating meaningful relationships within the community. This role includes structuring mentorship opportunities and evaluating program effectiveness. This role works closely with Natalie- founder of MHA to develop a leader guide and the mentorship training model.

Resource Manager

The Resource Manager will curate and organize educational and homeschooling resources tailored to military families. They will build partnerships with curriculum providers, educational organizations, and support networks to expand available resources. Additionally, they will ensure the MHA website and communications feature up-to-date, valuable content for members.

Homeschool Support Facilitator

The Homeschool Support board member will serve as the direct contact for military homeschooling families seeking guidance, encouragement, and assistance. They will answer common homeschooling questions, provide referrals to helpful resources, and facilitate peer support opportunities. This role is essential in fostering a welcoming and knowledgeable community.

SLO (School Liaison Officer) Manager

The SLO Manager will develop relationships with School Liaison Officers (SLOs) on military installations to bridge the gap between homeschooling families and military educational support services. They will provide SLOs with information about homeschooling regulations, challenges, and available resources. This role also includes advocating for homeschoolers within military education policies. Natalie-founder of MHA is the SLO trainer/speaker for virtual and in-person speaking requests.

Donor Support

The Donor Support board member will develop and manage MHA’s donor relations strategy to ensure financial sustainability. They will cultivate relationships with individual donors, businesses, and grant providers while maintaining donor records and appreciation efforts. This role includes organizing fundraising campaigns and ensuring financial transparency.

Legal Advisor

The Legal Advisor will provide guidance on legal and regulatory matters relevant to MHA’s operations and the military homeschooling community. They will ensure the organization remains compliant with nonprofit laws and homeschooling regulations. This role may also involve advising on contracts, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.

Grant Writer

The Grant Writer will research, identify, and apply for grant opportunities that align with MHA’s mission and goals. They will draft compelling grant proposals, manage submission deadlines, and track funding opportunities. This role also includes reporting on grant usage, maintaining relationships with funding organizations, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
